skin allergy

 Skin allergies

The causes and factors that create skin irritation are diverse. Some might be heat, a disorder in the immune system, medications and infections. When the immune system responds to the provocation of an allergen (something that produces allergy), the skin irritation could be an allergic condition.
Types of skin allergies
Dermatitis (eczema)

This is the type of allergy that occurs when the skin contacts directly with an allergen. An example of allergic contact dermatitis would occur if someone allergic to nickel in a jewelery is tested somewhat, even with a small amount of nickel, and in the contact area appear redness in the skin, scales, bumps, itching or swelling.
Skin allergy

Atopic dermatitis (eczema) is a chronic skin disease that usually appears in childhood and is due to immune dysfunction in the layers of the skin. Many times it is usually linked to asthma, allergic rhinitis (hay fever) or food allergy. This progressive link is known as the atopic march.

Other examples of allergic dermatitis would be those caused by contact with plants, such as poison ivy, oak and sumac. These plants are covered by an oily layer that causes the itching, rash and redness of the skin when touched. Contact with clothes, pets or even gardening tools that have been in contact with the oil that covers some plants could also cause skin allergic reactions.

Some of the people suffering from allergic dermatitis also suffer from food intolerance or sensitivity, which could cause a worsening in the symptoms of eczema.
Urticaria

Urticaria is an inflammation of the skin that is produced by the release of histamine by the immune system. This trigger causes small spills in the blood vessels leading to inflammations in the skin. It is known as angiodema the swelling that occurs in the deep layers of the skin.

There are two types of urticaria hives: acute and chronic. Acute urticaria can occur when eating a particular food or when coming into contact with a particular substance. Chronic urticaria, however, appears and can last for months or years.

There are non-allergic causes such as heat or exercise that can trigger the onset of hives, as well as allergic reactions such as, to medications, food or insect bites.

Despite the appearance of urticaria and eczema and the discomfort and pain they generate, both are not contagious.
Skin allergy
Allergy to milk or milk intolerance? It is important to differentiate a true allergy to milk that milk protein intolerance or lactose intolerance. Unlike an allergy to milk, intolerance does not involve the immune system. Intolerance to milk causes different symptoms and requires a different treatment from a true milk allergy. The signs and symptoms of milk protein or lactose intolerance include digestive problems, such as bloating, gas and diarrhea after consuming milk or products containing milk.
Angioedema

Angioedema is the inflammation that occurs in the deep layers of the skin, sometimes similar in appearance, to urticaria (hives). Angioedema appears more frequently in soft tissues where the skin is thinner such as the eyelids, mouth or genitals.

Acute angioedema is one that lasts a short period of time, such as minutes or days. It is usually caused by an allergic reaction to a specific medication or food.

Chronic recurrent angioedema is the condition that remains for a long period of time. In many cases, it is not known how to identify what is the cause.

Hereditary angioedema (AEH) is a rare disease that has serious genetic conditions, involving inflammation of various parts of the body, such as the hands, feet, face, intestinal wall and airways.

Skin diseases are one of the common aspects of allergy that are most treated and managed by allergists or immunologists. It is very important to see a doctor with specialized training and experience to accurately diagnose the condition of theskin and provide relief for the symptoms
